Xiaolin Chronicles Character developments

While watching the slowly forming Chronicles I am often disappointed since I keep comparing it to Showdown. After the latest few shows I have finally decided that Chronicles is an alternate reality from Showdown.  The oringal show did so well because the characters were well defined. I know that Chase would be hard to write often as he is a bit strong and pretty much what you want for a villain, But that wasn't the case for all. Jack the easiest to write is even off in this one. There is weird references and even storylines that don't match up. Now I know there is a nice wink to the oringal story in the first episode, that seems to be forgotten now.

Now I am pretty such we all could see dragons becoming a big part in the series and even a big part in Chase's past. And I am sure none of us can argue about him falling for a dragon girl in a doom romance. But the development to his character that makes no sense to me at the very least is the addition of a brother. Chase having an older brother and wanting to beat him. No Hannibal bean, No temptation of a 'magic potion' to help you achieve your goals. Nope, none of that. Chase apparently turned even because the girl of his dreams chose his brother over him in the most confusing series of events since they make it sound like she loves him and loves his brother. Seriously? The idea of a dragon girl and chase in a doomed romance sounds good, but the execution seems bad. Very bad.  What was wrong with having Chase corrupted by blindly following his ambitions. Chase wanted to be the best warrior in the world. Hannibal Roy Bean offered him soup telling him that it would help him achieve his goals, not informing him of all it would change. Where is the good guy who went down the wrong path story? The story now makes Chase seem like a whining child. Yes he is easier to relate to, but having him chose the darker path with this new story makes it seem like if your older sibling is always getting what you want, that you will be evil if you try to obtain it. Not sure what that is suppose to teach. The old lesson was good, that even good intentions can end up misguided and even the closest of friends can be sworn enemies.

Personally if I was to write a Chase love story it would have it where the dragon girl was in charge of keeping an eye on the dragons and ensuring their safety and number. She and Chase meet and fall in love. Later on she finds out chase is killing the dragons she is sworn to protect or Hannibal kills her to make her into the soup that he gives to chase. Either way she either dies or fights chase. If Hannibal doesn't kill or injure her, then she would most likely scatter the dragons and disappear feeling foolish in herself for falling for someone who did something so awful.

Now there are new characters in this series and they are so underwhelming it isn't even funny. Tiny Sim is amoung the most annoying. I mean seriously, we didn't need jack to have some tiny little brat to look up to him. Tiny is like a carbon copy of jack but without any of the charms. He's that annoying little brother that no one likes and no one wants to see. And somehow he ends up using two different shen-gong -wu that do that exact same thing. That was weird. Super cow patty was another useless character that gave no real development. Another sibling of Clay who wants to prove they are better than him. Um, seriously? Where's his sister? she was good at that, nope, it's a brother now. Like we didn't have enough boys. Even weirder is the cow shen-gong-wu in this one and the attacking with milk. Seriously milk? I was not a fan of that episode.  And then there is Salvador Cumo whom I think is a failed version of Chase young. Not only was this character very vain and exceedingly weird, he didn't follow the rules of Komodo dragons, which he is said to be a humanoid one. Google them, he is nothing of the like. This episode gave way to a backstory of Raimundo which didn't fit the oringal Raimundo from Showdown. This showed Rai being a sad kid who was forced to clean up after elephants. Where in showdown he lived in a small village near a mountain and got along well and happily with his family. These new characters didn't bring much as they were either in on episode or seem to be plot devices and that's it.

Another development I will address is what is with the mixed results of the Lao Mei Long soup? Chase drank it, turned into a lizard/dragon monster became immortal (and in the oringal series his personality switched around a bit and it is hinted that when he first drank it he temporarily lost his mind.) Now Shadow drank it and she went on a spirit quest? Somehow ended up in the ying yang world (which has been renamed as something else but I can't remember) And is now suddenly good? What is going on? It is confusing enough with the green monkey mask which apparently was part of Shadow and then wasn't already, but now this?  Anyone else confuse?

The other parts are What happened to Chase's egg? If Chase was removed from the universe, does that mean that dragon killed him? Will Chase come back as if the last episode never happened?

I do love Showdown. Chronicles is not Showdown. Like I said, it seems to be an alternate reality.

But just so you guys don't think I am just slamming the show. I will tell you things I do like. I like that They can get dragons to fly. I like that they still show closeness to each other. I like that Omi still fails at slang. I like jack's van. I like the fact dragons play a good role in this series. (though I personally didn't care for Rocco, he was at least good for character development and good to learn about different parts of the world in Chronicles). I like how the new temple looks for the most part. I like barky the talking freaking tree! and I like the designs for their weapons.

See not all hate, not all questions. If you have anything to say or comment or question as well be sure to comment too.

The pause and wait.

Hello everyone, Yes a new post about Xiaolin Chronicles. This is going to be a short one and I am most likely going to say what has been on everyone's mind.

That is... What is going on!?? Where is the next episode? Not that I am sure where they are going with the series so far. The first season started august 2013 and aired about 20 of the promised 22 to 26 of the first season. It had a good release pace for  a while and then it stopped! for months. Last one aired on march 2014.

I am wondering what is going. Makes me worry about funding or writer's block and what not. Since the storyline currently reads a bit wobbly as if she has a ton of ideas but no idea what to do with them. I can relate to that as I am working on a story right now and it is at the wobbly stage too.

Also I have no idea what the season finale is going to be like since Chase Young has changed so much and is even taken out of the game by laying an egg. Shadow... well she is like a kung fu master female version of jack. You can see her being evil and putting people in a bind, but you can't really fear her and just want to mock her for trying so hard to be evil. As for the other villians... they seemed to be downgraded since showdown. so I have no idea. Though it could be a good time for Hannibal Roy Bean to show up.

My idea would be that Hannibal shows up and tries to steal chase's egg thinking it will bring him power. the monks try to stop this and break the time travel Shen gong wu sending them to the past where they see how Chase is connected to Omi. be it father, uncle, or evil cousin. though I think father would be best, and it is Omi's mother who made the time travel shen gong wu to protect Omi from Chase. So she has to fix the shen gong wu. throw in Hannibal being evil and such and you got yourself a hit!

but that is my idea for the finale.

Chase Young Possible reasons of change.

Okay everyone knows I love Chase Young as a villain over all. And we know I have not hidden my annoyment with the newer Chase Young. While thinking it over I tried to figure out why Chase became the way he now is.

First reason. His voice actor. Jason Marsden had a kinda cool, and wise kind of voice that one could expect from a guy who doesn't truly lose his temper often. Maybe once or twice to snap at people to get them in line. But truly that voice has the more calculating way about them.(Showdown) His current voice actor is David Kaye, whom I think does a couple other voices already. So the care to go into a voice is not all there. The voice of Chase here is more cocky and easier to yell while sounding annoyed and pissy. Which suits more for the quicker temper guy who loses his cool.

Second reason. Lines. What he says has changed. Instead of speaking in his cool lines of honor bound which seem to give him an air of being wise beyond his years. He now uses words like "Doohickey." that is so not him. Even though he did have moments in the most recent chase episode where he spoke like himself.  Which was "much to my Shagrin." that part only did he sound like himself and the end where he spoke about omi being honorable and then disappeared into the smoke.

Third reason and the most likely is due to the fact that Chase's character is so hard to write as a often villain. As fans wanted to see more of their beloved Chase he was made the main villain of the new series. However He didn't show many flaws that the monks could think of taking advantage of.  Chase's oringal character's weaknesses were his honorable nature (even though evil), His addiction to luxury, His dependence to his soup, He was a bit too confident, narrow minded when focused on something (like turning omi evil), a bit of a control freak, and he was easily annoyed by people like Jack. (Yeah you could so annoy that chase to death). As a kid show a character is hard to write to fail a lot as the main villain would as Chase didn't seem he would fail that much, as when he did fail he still won something in showdown.

the current Chase has so many weaknesses. He is less than honorable since it takes more thoughts to figure out how to be an honorable villain than dishonor. He doesn't care about loyalty when in his pervious self did.  If showdown Chase met Chronicles Chase he would beat him up for having Shadow so wild under his control. He loses his temper a lot more as seen by his yelling. He feels he has to explain himself, like when Shadow caught him with his egg. Before he would have been blunt about it. He lost his elegance and eats gross foods now ugh so he can easily be poisoned when before he was so careful with his food, and treated his body as a temple. He now has more power but uses them poorly, like turning Jack into a rat. His Narrow mindedness went from when he was focused on something to every day. And now he has laid and egg making him into a goofball who is over protective and irrational. not that this chance was very rational compared to his past self.

However Chase from showdown while he has many flaws, he is a bit harder to skirt around and accept he has lost compared to the Chase from Chronicles. Which is the main reason why I think his character changed so much.

I wonder what they will be doing with his egg thing. As it stands that egg has effectly taken him out of main villain running for the show. Or will the egg be a monster? A dragon? Will the egg look like OMi? As he did leave one tidbit that ensured us we will see more of him, as he told Omi he was related something every fan has been yelling since Chase showed his intense interest in Omi and never followed though with his threats. Merely playing the role of evil daddy. And if Chase is related to Omi who is Omi's mother and why does Omi look so much like Dashi. Are Omi and ping pong related. Oh so many questions with one phrase that we scarcely heard.

What do you think?

Xiaolin Showdown Jack Vs Chronicles Jack

Hey, Halie again.

This time we are seeing Jack VS Jack.  Feel free to post your own thoughts in the comments portion. As always I don't own Xiaolin showdown/Chronicles or anything like that. I am merely stating what I think.

Now, Showdown Jack is a whiny crybaby with a big ego. A boy who never gives up even when he gets kicked down. Easily tricked, but everyone somehow loves him(fans, not anyone in the show). He is never seen as a real threat, more of an annoyance. He also is a momma's boy and stays home with his parents in a rather nice house. He also is pretty smart considering I could never build a robot let alone one with a mind of it's own. lol. From what I know of, everyone loves Jack scared and panicking since it is so funny. He also is the only person in the show who uses the Shen gong wu like any normal person would. Jack is pretty much like one of us except he's in the world of the shen gong wu. He is also a fan of Chase Young and Hannibal Roy Bean. He wants to be seen as an equal so he is eager to please, yet at the same time if they aren't their he will diss them to try to seem cool. And He has a helipack which he uses to go everywhere and always has it on.

Chronicles Jack, reminds me of doctor Frankenstein. His new pad is a spooky greenhouse in a dark area that looks abandoned. Did his parents kick him out? He has robots still and a slim down version of Cyclops which showed up like once. He is still whiny and trying to take over the world with his impressive lair (for a teenage boy that is really impressive). We learn more about his allergies and other odd things. However he seems to have ditched his signature helipack for a car? It is like a mobile science lab/lair. Maybe he is 16 and is now legally able to drive now??? We have yet to see his misuse of the shen gong wu except lording over that he had one. He doesn't have as amusing screams as he did in showdown, but he seems to have grown up.

Truth be told I don't find much wrong with this new Jack. However he is less funny, I can't put my finger on why yet. Maybe the way he talks?(phrasing) and Jack does cry a lot less. I miss that.  Maybe explain how come he doesn't live at home anymore would be a good idea. I hope in the future he will be a bit more like himself which was a highly amusing, very realistic character that every fan could say "Uht yeah, I would do that too."

Showdown Chase Vs Chronicles Chase

Hey all,

I am Halie, I am a huge fan of Xiaolin Showdown. My favorite character being Chase Young from the show. They now have Xiaolin Chronicles out which is a continuation of Showdown. However like other fans I have questions and even issues with the new series.

Chase Young. I accept his design had to be changed physically. but did they have to alter him mentally too?

He oringally was a cocky, egotistical, honor-bound, elegant bad guy. When he was relaxing he could be seen in his awesome home inside the creepy mountain. He was a loner feeling that no one could be as good as him. He looked down at all. He had his eyes on Omi as he felt he was a threat and a threat as an ally instead of a foe is always a better idea. He seems to have a love of manipulating people and easily could pull off a dark prince role. This is how he is in showdown

He was reborn again in Chronicles. He still is cocky and egotistical, but he seems to have lost his honor-bound and elegant nature. He now is vain, focus on his looks, and a bit creepy with his interactions with Shadow, which she herself is creepy. He does odd things like diving his head into a bowl of water which he was watching others with still laughing or explains how much he loves how the robot altered his soup's taste. While I can see he still is a loner, he now has an offspring, Shadow, though the way they interact looks more like lovers than father and daughter.  His home now looks like a dreary cave with no effort to have the finer things in life like Chase was known for. Chase seems more like a wild animal in this new form than before.

Truth be told I totally dislike Shadow. I could see Chase having an offspring, but Shadow is not what I pictured for his offspring. And the fact he reproduced Asexually is kinda freaky.

Now I still love Chase Young in Xiaolin be it Showdown or Chronicles. I wish in the future they have Chase acting less creepy with Shadow, and be more of a father figure not like a lover type. (seriously before they showed that she is an incarnation of Chase's I thought she was a love interest for him) And I also wish that Chase would walk upstairs and show his place is as elegant as before and he does like the finer things in life and that he just has a downstairs that he uses for things like taking over the world stuff.

Not sure if anyone agrees with me. But please let me know. :D

PS I do not own anything I talked about or the pictures. They belong to other people who get paid for this stuff. I am merely stating what I observe and such. thank you.
